SURF CITY, N.C. (WECT) — A 300-pound female loggerhead sea turtle named Snooki has arrived in Surf City.
The sea turtle was rescued in New Jersey and flown via private plane to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Surf City.
Snooki was so big, crews had to switch her crate and switch the plane because of her size.
Rescuers affectionately named the sea turtle Snooki because of her Jersey roots.
Hospital Director Jean Beasley said Snooki plans to dine on her favorite food at the moment: fresh live whelk. They also plan to give her blue fish as well.
“It takes a lot of food to fill this big turtle,” Beasley explained.
