HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (WNCN) – First responders closed roads near Holly Springs while working to contain a wildfire that broke out Monday afternoon.
Officials closed Friendship Road at Holly Springs New Hill Road due to the fire but reopened the roads by 5:30 p.m.
The North Carolina Forest Service has taken over watch of the fire.
It is mostly out and contained.
At one point, 15 or more acres were burning.
The fire came within 100 feet of a home but crews were able to stop the fire from advancing.
The Forest Service is investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire was reported around 1 p.m. At one point there were four fire departments on the scene along with the Forest Service. Cary, Holly Springs, Apex and Fairview responded.
