Man killed by tractor-trailer as he tries to get across I-95 after flat tire in Johnston County

FOUR OAKS, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man died after being hit by a tractor-trailer while trying to get across Interstate 95 northbound Thursday night, officials say.

Najja Manu Gray, 36, died at the scene in Johnston County, according to the state highway patrol. The collision occurred on I-95 northbound near U.S. Route 701 near Four Oaks.

Gray was one of three men in a passenger car that pulled into the median after getting a flat tire; his two companions ran across the road to safety, but Gray didn’t make it, the highway patrol said.

The tractor-trailer driver is not facing charges, according to authorities.
