NEW HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — A 3-year-old girl was hit and killed by an SUV Thursday evening near New Hill, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed.

The toddler, identified as Miliah Banos-Ruiz-Coats, of 4828 Old U.S. 1 in Apex was killed after she ran into the road near a home in Wake County.

Banos-Ruiz-Coats was hit by a 2010 Jeep SUV when she ran into the southbound lane of Old U.S. 1 near Shearon Harris Road.

The pedestrian struck call came in just after 5:20 p.m. and the scene was cleared more than four hours later.

The 44-year-old Jeep driver will not face charges, according to the Highway Patrol.

Alcohol and speed were not factors in the incident.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol initially reported to CBS North Carolina that the vehicle involved in the incident was a dump truck. That has been corrected to show it was a Jeep.
