SC teen girl dies in crash while driving to high school

ABBEVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – An Abbeville High School student died after a single-car crash in Abbeville County on Monday morning.

The crash happened just after 11 a.m. on Old Hodges Road just north of Abbeville, officials said

Kimberlyn Alexis Shelman, 17, was driving a 2002 Honda Accord when her car ran off of the right side of the road, hit a ditch and then overturned, authorities said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says she was trapped in the car and died at the scene.

The Abbeville County coroner says Shelman was a junior at Abbeville High School and was on her way to school when the crash happened.

Shelman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the coroner.
