Police reopen area blocked off in downtown Raleigh after suspicious item found

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Police have reopened several streets that were blocked off in downtown Raleigh after they said a suspicious item found was outside.

The item was found in the 200 block of South Salisbury Street around 7:30 p.m. About 11 p.m., police announced they had removed the item from the area and reopened the streets. They did not say what the item was or whether it was dangerous.

Police said they’re still investigating the situation. They are asking the public to avoid the area.

Affected areas include South Salisbury Street’s intersections with Davie and Hargett streets and the intersection of South McDowell and West Martin streets.

More updates are expected.
