NC elementary school music teacher charged with child porn

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A music teacher at an elementary school in Charlotte has confessed to watching child pornography after police began an investigation last month, investigators say.

According to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police, 32-year-old Benjamin McMiller was arrested Wednesday. He was charged with four counts of 3rd degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and one count of 2nd degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

The investigation began on October 20 when detectives with the Special Victims Division received an online tip that an person was viewing child pornography in Charlotte.

Detectives determined the online account belonged to McMiller, a music teacher at Oakdale Elementary School. Detectives went to McMiller’s residence and seized evidence, officials said.

McMiller voluntarily came to police headquarters Wednesday where he was interviewed by detectives, police say. During the interview, he confessed to streaming the videos and was arrested.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, McMiller has been an employee of the district since August 2015. He is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
