MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WSLS) – An Eden, N.C., man was shot and killed after forcing his way into a Henry County, Va., home on Thursday, deputies said.
Michael Graves, 28, pronounced dead when he was taken to Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden at about 4:40 a.m., according to authorities. Deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office were already at the hospital investigating an unrelated incident.
Deputies determined that Graves was shot while at 2052 Stoney Mountain Rd. in Martinsville, according to the sheriff’s office. When deputies arrived there, they found damage to the front door and several bullet holes in the home, authorities said.
Investigators believe that Graves and his brother, Charles Rydell Flood Jr., had gone to the home and that Graves had forced his way into the home, according to officials. Once inside, he was shot during a confrontation with one of the occupants, according to the sheriff’s office.
After Graves had been shot, Flood fired multiple rounds from a handgun into the home, deputies said.
Flood has been charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, authorities said. He was jailed without bond.
