4 dead after SUV and tractor-trailer collide in Virginia

CAPEVILLE, Va. (WNCN) – Emergency crews responded to a deadly vehicle crash in Northampton County on Saturday afternoon.

The wreck was reported on U.S. 13/Lankford Highway near Capeville Drive around 12:45 p.m.

Four people were killed in the wreck, according WAVY-TV. In a photo from the scene, a red SUV was heavily damaged and covered by a tarp.

The crash happened when a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe pulled out eastbound and crossed in front a tractor-trailer, which was going southbound, officials told WAVY. The tractor-trailer then t-boned the SUV, hitting the driver’s side.

Killed in the crash were: 87-year-old Konrad Erbes Jr., 78-year-old Angelika Erbes, 80-year-old Jakob Eng and 76-year-old Theresa Eng, WAVY reported.

No charges are being filed against the driver of the tractor-trailer.

All southbound and northbound lanes were closed on U.S. 13 after the crash, which happened southeast of Capeville.
