DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Relationship building and connecting the community were main topics at Sunday’s peaceful rally at the Durham Farmers’ Market, attendees said.

However, there were still plenty of anti-Donald Trump signs as people showed their disappointment in President-elect Donald Trump.

“Our message is that the values that Trump represents are not our values. We want to commit to the values of love and inclusion. Not hatred and bigotry,” Bennett Carpenter said.

At Sunday’s rally, families spoke about unity and love and how the community can move forward after this past week’s election.

Durham teacher Anca Stefan was happy with the rally’s turnout. She believes in unifying the younger generation.

“It’s encouraging to see people coming together and expressing that fear through and impulsive to unity. To embracing each other and to reaffirming the values we share and that we want to share in the future,” Stefan said.

Danielle Galdy, 25, also attended the rally and said she wants the community to stop hate and violence from moving forward.

“I came out today because this is an opportunity to show that as a county and as a community we will not go quietly for someone like Donald Trump to take over and hurt our country,” Galdy said.
