PINEHURST, N.C. — A Pinehurst man died after a single vehicle accident Sunday morning. The wreck happened on Linden Road in Pinehurst a short distance from NC Highway 5 around 9:00 AM.

The Lincoln Continental passenger car ran off of the road striking a pine tree and pinning the driver in the vehicle. Emergency responders had to cut the drivers door off of the vehicle to gain access to the injured man.

After being extricated from the vehicle the victim was loaded into an ambulance and driven to the soccer field behind the Pinehurst Fire Department to meet a helicopter that had been called for the accident. A short time after the helicopter landed the victim went into cardiac arrest before he could be loaded onto the helicopter and was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst where he was determined to be deceased.

The victim was identified as 64 year old James E. Clark Jr of a Gray Fox Run address in Pinehurst.

Linden Road was totally blocked to traffic for almost an hour and a half while the victim was assisted and the accident scene investigated.

Mr. Clark was involved in a fatal accident on March 18th of this year that claimed the life of Frank Lahr from a Salem Lane address in Pinehurst. This accident also occurred on Linden Road with Clark being transported by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries from the scene of that accident. Clark had charges related to the accident still pending.

Responding to the accident today were units with Pinehurst Fire Department, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Pinehurst Police Department.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation as of this report.
