CLINTON, N.C. (WNCN) – A former Fayetteville fire lieutenant faces more than a dozen sex crime charges after a Sampson County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a child being sexually assaulted.
On Oct. 26, the Sheriff’s Office learned of a juvenile who was sexually assaulted. Through that investigation, Carmine Colantuono, 58, of Clinton was charged in connection with the assault.
He was charged with:
- Six counts statutory sex offense
- Six counts indecent liberties with a child
- Second-degree forcible rape
- Statutory rape
- Second-degree sexual offense
- Crimes against nature
Colantuono surrendered to authorities Nov. 10 and is being held in the Sampson County Detention Center under a $500,000 secured bond.
Colantuono served as a member of the Fayetteville Fire Department more than seven years prior to his arrest.
City officials confirm he was hired by the Department in May 2009 and was promoted to lieutenant on Oct. 3.
He resigned from the department on Nov. 9.
He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 18.
