DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Ivan Sanchez has bruises on his face from an early Saturday morning robbery in Durham.
He was getting back into his car at a Walgreens just after midnight when two men, wearing all black walked up behind him.
“I felt somebody take me out and I got scared,” Sanchez said.
He started panicking – thinking his life was over.
“Somebody’s coming in front of me, one of the other men, and put something here in my chest and I cried, ‘Oh my God.’ Only thing I said was, ‘I am going to die,’” he said.
After the scuffle, Sanchez called police and a friend, Dolores Brynt, who he was just with less than an hour before the attack happened.
The suspects made off with Sanchez’s 1998 gray Toyota Avalon.
When she showed up, she was shocked.
“I’m looking for my friend, and I see him in a very bad condition, and I feel scared because this guy is a very nice person,” Brynt said.
Sanchez visits the Walgreens on Fayetteville Road near Southpoint Mall often and said he never thought he would get robbed at the pharmacy.
“I arrive always after midnight, to pick up medicine, to buy cigarettes, everything. I thought it was a very safe place, but I don’t know what’s happened,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez is expected to recover from his injuries.
If you have any information that could lead to an arrest, you’re asked to call police.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help Sanchez following the incident.
