RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — As fires approach communities in western North Carolina, thousands of people are being asked to leave their homes and businesses behind.
In addition to fighting those fires, officials have to find places for those evacuees to stay.
Rebecca Evans with the American Red Cross joined CBS North Carolina Thursday morning to provide information on what the organization is doing to help those impacted by the wildfires.
Volunteers carry out 90 percent of the humanitarian work of the American Red Cross. There are many ways people can volunteer with the organization in their local community, and the Red Cross is always looking for people with various backgrounds, talents and skill levels.
