Astros High A minor league team to play 2 seasons at Campbell before moving to Fayetteville

HOUSTON (WNCN) — The Houston Astros announced Thursday that their High A affiliate will play at Campbell University for the next two seasons before moving to their new stadium in Fayetteville.

The team will be called the Buies Creek Astros and will play at Campbell University for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. The university is located in Buies Creek.

Astros officials, along with Carolina League officials, a City of Fayetteville councilmember, Campbell University’s president, and the school’s director of athletics will hold a noon press conference at Jim Perry Stadium on the Campbell University campus on Friday.

The Buies Creek Astros will open the 2017 season at home as they take on the Salem Red Sox on Thursday, April 6. The Astros High A affiliate had been located in Lancaster, Calif. dating back to 2009.

The public is invited to attend the announcement.
