Durham police seek two on robbery charges

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Durham police are trying to find two men accused of armed robbery.

Jamel Tyree Lunsford, 19, and Russell Wright Jr., 21, are charged in connection with a robbery that took place Oct. 19, police said.

About 10:30 p.m. that night, a man and a woman were in a parking lot in the 2800 block of Chapel Hill Road in Durham, when three men approached them, grabbed the woman and took her phone, police said.

One robber hit the man in the face with a gun and took his phone and wallet, according to police.

Both Lunsford and Wright are charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy and assault by pointing a gun, according to authorities. Wright is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

Lunsford is also wanted in connection with an armed robbery at Golden Pizza, 2300 Chapel Hill Road, on Oct. 24, police said.

In that robbery, three men wearing hoodies and carrying guns entered the business about 9:15 p.m. and stole the cash register, according to police.

In that case, Lunsford is facing charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy and kidnapping, police said.

And Wright is also facing charges in connection with a second Oct. 19 incident, police said. He is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and larceny of a firearm, police said.
