CARY, N.C. (WNCN) The Swift Creek Fire Department in Cary will accept donations all day Friday for the firefighters battling wildfires in Western North Carolina.

People have already been donating items including food, drinks and medicine.

Barry’s Cafe just outside of Raleigh is also taking donations.

Capt. Jerry Medford said there’s a need for wool socks and cold-weather gear, as well.

“It’s not like we have here in the Triangle where it’s easier to access the fires. They’re having to deal with the fire going up the mountain and the wind and the challenges that presents,” he said.

Medford will take the donations west Saturday, he said.
