FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A man in a wheelchair and an elderly woman were evacuated from their Fayetteville home during a fire Saturday night.

The blaze was reported at a house in the 1500 block of Lacy Street around 8 p.m.

The fire department says when crews arrived, they found an exterior wall engulfed in flames.

Neighbors helped extinguish the blaze before the fire department got to the scene.

Two people inside the home were transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

“One man is in a wheelchair and they had to get him out and the one elderly lady, from what I understand, she had some sort of episode, maybe a heart attack, so yeah everyone was in an uproar, there was a couple kids in the house also,” said neighbor Walter Cline.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Fayetteville Police are investigating.

The Red Cross is assisting the family displaced by the fire.
