NC man dies after being found with gunshot wound near crash scene

EDEN, N.C. (WNCN) — Deputies are investigating a homicide after a young North Carolina man was found near a crash scene and later died Sunday.


Cornelius Montrell Clark, 23, of Judy Road in Eden died after being found near a wrecked minivan and suffering from a gunshot wound, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The incident was reported around 1 a.m. Sunday on Harrington Highway near the N.C. 14 intersection in Eden, deputies said.

The call first came in from a passerby as a crash and when deputies arrived they saw a silver Mercury Monterey minivan wrecked on the on the side of the road.

But, nearby first responders found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso, deputies said.

Clark was transported to Morehead Hospital where he later died.

Eden Police and North Carolina State Highway Patrol is assisting the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office on this investigation.
