MORGANTON, N.C. (WBTV) – The oldest woman in North Carolina passed away Saturday in Morganton at 111-years-old.
Statistically, Ruby Clodfelter was a marvel of genetics and aging.
She was born on July 26, 1905 and enjoyed almost perfect health up until her passing this past weekend.
Clodfelter was a recurring feature on our Good News segment. It was tough to miss one of her birthday parties and the chance to get a hug from such a wonderful woman.
“I eat mostly junk food,” Clodfelter was known to say when asked what her ‘secret’ was. Her vigorous health was the focus of several studies by universities across the country. Even in her advanced age, she marveled doctors with her near-perfect vision and hearing.
Clodfelter was a resident of Grace Ridge Retirement Community where she lived independently in her own apartment until just a few months ago.
While her health may have made her a medical marvel, her life was a marvel in its own right. She sewed her own clothes, she loved NASCAR and Tony Stewart, and she will be remembered by friends and family as the true definition of grace and class. “Ms. Ruby” was always a lady with a beautiful smile that could light up a room.
Her light will live on even in her passing.
