Pedestrian dies after Glenwood Ave collision

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A 23-year-old man died hours after he was hit by a vehicle on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh Monday morning, police said.

Raymundo Garcia-Sanchez was struck a little after 6:30 a.m. on Glenwood Avenue near the Pleasant Valley shopping center, police said.

A wreck report revealed Garcia-Sanchez was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by a Nissan sedan traveling at 40 mph.

All but one of the inbound lanes of Glenwood Avenue were closed in the vicinity of Pleasant Valley Drive. All lanes were reopened by 11:30 a.m.

Garcia-Sanchez was transported to the hospital. Police said around 5:45 p.m. Monday that Garcia-Sanchez had died.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Raleigh police originally released that the driver of the vehicle ran from the scene. Raleigh police later said the incident was not a hit and run.
