Roy Cooper announces transition team

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Gubernatorial challenger Roy Cooper announced the co-chairs of his transition team on Monday.

Cooper appointed Kristi Jones of Raleigh and Jim Phillips of Greensboro as transition co-chairs.

Jones served at the Department of Justice for more than 10 years as Cooper’s chief of staff. Phillips is a partner of the law firm Brooks Pierce McLendon Humphrey and Leonard.

Ken Eudy was named executive director of the transition, the Cooper campaign announced. Eudy is founder of Raleigh’s Capstrat.

“North Carolinians voted for a change two weeks ago. I have a lot of confidence in Kristi Jones, Jim Phillips and Ken Eudy to help me assemble a team that works every day for all North Carolinians,” Cooper said in a release. “It’s 40 days until I take the oath of office. It would be irresponsible to wait any longer to tackle the issues we campaigned on across the state.”

Cooper holds 6,600 vote lead over Gov. Pat McCrory as protests have slowed the State Board of Elections from tallying final results, the Associated Press reported.

The State Board of Elections met by phone Sunday as county election boards hoped this coming week to tally their final ballot results that could affect too-close-to-call races for governor and state auditor.
