Van strikes man running from bail bondsmen in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A man running from bail bondsmen is in critical condition after being struck by a van while crossing Bragg Boulevard in Fayetteville, police said.

About 3:12 p.m. Monday, the man was running from bail bondsmen in the Sycamore Square Shopping Center when he attempted to cross Bragg Boulevard.

Christopher Howell, 27, of the 1800 block of Tryon Drive, ran in front of a Ford E350 and was hit, according to the Fayetteville Police Department’s preliminary investigation.

Howell was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Police said he remains in critical but stable condition.

The driver of the van, William Walker, 54, of the 1500 block of Edgeware Court, wasn’t injured, police said.

Bragg Boulevard was closed inbound at Shannon Drive while police investigated but reopened at 4:45 p.m.
