CLICK FOR LATEST UPDATE: Wildfire near Blowing Rock expands to 700 acres, forces evacuations
BLOWING ROCK, N.C. (WBTV) — The latest of the growing western North Carolina wildfires now includes Blowing Rock in Watauga County.
Richard Cockerham with the North Carolina Forest Service said rough winds, rugged terrain and low humidity has contributed to the fire, which has spread to a couple hundred acres. “But it’s growing,” Cockerham said.
So far, about 12 structures have been prepped. Officials are burning around the structures to protect them.
Cockerham said if the fire keeps burning, as expected, “we’re going to have many more in danger’s way.”
So far, no injuries have been reported.
