GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — Goldsboro police have charged a man with being a felon in possession of a firearm after they found an AR-15 rifle while chasing a man, officials said.
On Oct. 15, police were trying to speak to people who were hanging out at a vacant home at 309 W. Holly St. When officers got out of their patrol car, a man picked up an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and ran away, according to police.
After a chase, police found the rifle, but not the man. Officers later discovered the gun had been stolen earlier in the year in Wayne County, police said.
Police later got warrants charging Dwayne Hardy with possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.
On Tuesday, officers found Hardy at 709 B N. George St., police said.
The owner of the residence let police search it, and they saw “several illegal items in plain view,” according to officials.
As a result, Willard Sprangle was charged with possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and two counts of failure to appear, police said.
Sprangle’s bond was set at $16,305.00 secured, and Hardy’s bond was set at $100,000.00 secured, according to police. Both men are due in court Wednesday.
