Police-involved shooting confirmed in Lumberton

LUMBERTON, N.C. (WNCN) — The State Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that the Lumberton police have asked the agency to look into an officer-involved shooting.

Chief Michael McNeil with the Lumberton Police Department says the shooting happened at the Dollar General on Martin Luther King Drive on Tuesday night.

The Robesonian newspaper reported that a woman suspected in several thefts in the area was shot. The woman was airlifted to a hospital for treatment, the newspaper reported.

The SBI was called to the scene and is expected to release more information.
