GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – An upstate woman has been charged with child neglect after deputies say she left her infant in a hot car.

According to the report from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, it happened on Sept. 14 at a Dollar General on New Woodruff Road.

The report says it was 93 degrees outside at the time. Deputies got a call from someone saying an infant was left in a car that was not running.

When deputies got there, a witness had opened the car door and was holding the baby. At that point, the mom, Bridgette Fowler of Duncan, walked out of the store and was holding the child in the parking lot, according to the report.

Deputies say the infant was sweating and in distress from the heat. The infant was placed in the deputy’s front seat with the air conditioning on until EMS arrived. Emergency responders then took the child to their vehicle to continue to cool her down.

According to the report, Fowler’s car was parked in the middle of the parking lot with no shade. The windows were rolled up and the child’s car seat was still in the back on the car.

After investigating, deputies arrested Fowler on Nov. 17 and charged her with unlawful neglect of a child.
