DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — The folks at the Durham Rescue Mission spend every Thanksgiving providing a massive holiday meal for around 1,500 people.
Nearly 500 volunteers tookpart in this year’s event, preparation for which began at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
On the menu will be 125 turkeys that were roasted on outdoor grills, some barbecue and all the fixings.
In addition to the 1,500 who received their Thanksgiving meal at the Durham Rescue Mission, the organization also plans to deliver another 400 meals with the Meals on Wheels program to those who are unable to come.
For the first time ever, the first 700 people who come to have their Thanksgiving meal at the Mission will get a $20 gift card to the Durham Rescue Mission Thrift Store.
Lunch began at noon.
