BELLS, N.C. (WNCN) — Four people were transported to the hospital after their vehicle was rear-ended on U.S. 64 Thursday afternoon in Chatham County, officials said.
A black Honda was stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of U.S. 64 and Route 751 when a Subaru plowed into it.
Three people in the Honda were airlifted to UNC Hospitals and are in critical condition, officials said.
The driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The Honda driver was treated for minor injuries and released, officials said.
The driver of the Subaru was not injured.
Investigators said the driver of Subaru became distracted when he dropped his cell phone.
Charges are pending.
