Big rig’s trailer sliced in 2 during collision with train in NY

DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said a tractor trailer and train collided Saturday evening.

The crash happened before 7 p.m. at Progress Drive and Werle Road in Dunkirk, which is about 45 miles southwest of Buffalo.

Dispatchers told WIVB-TV that the truck driver suffered a minor injury. Crews also had to put out a small fire that started in the trailer.

The truck’s trailer was completely sliced into two parts just past the point where the trailer connects to the truck. The longest remaining section of the trailer, which was marked as belonging to H.O. Wolding, was also severely twisted.

The contents of the truck were spilled beside the rail line, which is near a Purina plant.
