PIKEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Two Pikeville men have been arrested and charged with firearm and drug charges following an attempt to serve a warrant on one of the men, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to authorities, members of the Wayne County Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team went to a residence located at 1246 Daw Pate Road to assist in serving a child support warrant on George Edward Mayes Jr., 32.
While inside the home, deputies saw narcotics and drug paraphernalia “in plain view,” officials said. Mayes gave consent to deputies to search the home.
During the search, two handguns and one stolen rifle were found along with heroin, authorities said.
George Carnell Lewis Jr., 47, was also arrested and charged following the investigation.
Mayes is charged with possession of firearm by felon, possession with intent to sell/deliver a schedule II drug, possession of heroin, maintaining dwelling, and possession of a schedule IV drug. He is being held in Wayne County jail under a $17,000 secured bond.
Lewis is charged with possession of firearm by felon and possession of stolen firearm. He is being held in Wayne County jail under a $15,000 secured bond.
