Horse and buggy wreck leaves 3 dead

FT. WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A hit-and-run wreck involving a pickup truck and horse and buggy has claimed its third victim.

The crash happened the evening of November 20.

Allen County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Captain Steve Stone has said a pickup truck involved in the crash remained at the scene at the intersection of Notestine Road and SR 37, but the driver has yet not been located.

The license plate on the pickup truck was determined to be “false and fictitious,” as they came back registered to another vehicle.

According to the Allen County Coroner’s Office, John Graber, 19, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died early Saturday morning of injuries from the crash. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma due to a motor vehicle crash, the manner of which was an accident.

The crash also killed Rebecca Graber, 18 and Michelle Graber, 16, who were pronounced dead on the scene.

It remains unclear how the three Grabers are related.

Stone said Fort Wayne and New Haven police officers are looking for the person connected to the crash.
