DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A man pleaded guilty Monday to killing a woman at a Durham restaurant in 2011.
Delia Allen was killed in a shooting at an IHOP restaurant in the early morning hours of Oct. 12, 2011.
Jerry Adams Jr, 27, pleaded guilty to three charges including second degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and a consolidated charge of discharging a firearm/assault on law enforcement, according to the Durham County Clerk’s Office.
Investigators say the deadly shooting came after an encounter with a pair of off-duty sheriff’s deputies at the restaurant.
“Initially it was thought that he had been ejected — but in actuality — he had an encounter with the deputy sheriffs, but they did not eject him. He chose to leave on his own accord,” then-Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez said at the time.
Adams was sentenced to at least 18 years in prison.
