RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — An Athens Drive High School teacher charged with committing a sex act with a student in Henderson County has resigned, an official with the Wake County Public School System said.
Devon Lategan, 29, is facing the charge in connection with his time teaching in Henderson County, according to authorities.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said that a warrant to arrest Devon Lategan, of 129 Warm Wood Lane in Apex, was obtained after a long investigation.
According to arrest records, the sex act happened in June.
The sheriff’s office said Lategan used to teach at West Henderson High School.
Lategan began teaching science at Athens Drive on Aug. 19, Wake County school officials said.
Lategan was suspended with pay on Nov. 22 pending the investigation, school officials said.
Lategan was placed in the Wake County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond but has since bonded out, records show.
