FOUR OAKS, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was killed Wednesday when a car driven by an impaired driver ran head-on into a lawnmower going the wrong way down a Johnston County road, police said.
About 6 p.m., Billy Parker, 53, of Four Oaks was driving a lawnmower south in the northbound lane of Parkertown Road near its intersection with Adam Road, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
At the same time, Larry Johnson, 63, also of Four Oaks, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet car north on Parkertown Road while impaired, police said.
Johnson’s Chevrolet struck Parker’s lawnmower head on, the highway patrol said.
Parker was ejected and died at the scene, according to officials.
Johnson suffered only minor injuries and is now charged with DWI, police said.
