RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A woman was killed in a crash on U.S. Route 401 southbound in Raleigh Thursday morning and the driver fled the scene, Sgt. Michael Baker with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.
Some lanes of U.S. Route 401 southbound in Raleigh were shut down Thursday morning following the crash, which occurred at approximately 2:05 a.m. on U.S. 401 near Ten-Ten Road, authorities said. The lanes reopened around 7 a.m.
According to authorities, a white 2011 Nissan Hatchback traveled off the road to the left and into the median. The driver then overcorrected, traveled off the road to the right, hit a ditch, and then flipped several times.
A female passenger was found dead in the car. The driver fled the scene on foot, troopers said.
The N.C. Highway Patrol, Wake County Sheriff’s Office, Raleigh Fire Department and Wake County EMS all responded to the scene, a CBS North Carolina crew on scene reported.
Authorities have not identified the woman or given any details on the driver who fled.
