I-40 reopens after vehicle fire near Garner

GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — A vehicle fire closed both directions of I-40 for about 30 minutes in Wake County on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened at 4:48 p.m. near Garner south of Exit 306, which is U.S. Highway 70, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The road was closed at mile marker 307, the N.C. DOT said. Around 5:20 p.m., the right lane heading south and all lanes heading north were reopened, officials said.

At 5:36, the left lane heading south was also reopened.

The entire highway is now open, officials said, however there are still traffic delays in the area.
