2.1 earthquake hits North Carolina

LENIOR, N.C. (WNCN) — A 2.1 magnitude earthquake hit at 9:46 a.m. Tuesday about 10 miles north of Lenoir and about 14 miles southeast of Boone.

The epicenter was about three miles deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, which confirmed the seismic event.

A total of seven members of the public reported the earthquake to the U.S.G.S.
