Argument over pork chop leads to arson charge for Ohio teen

Miracle Wilford (Youngstown Police Department)

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – An argument over a pork chop at a girls home in Youngstown ended with one of the girls starting a fire in the bathroom on Sunday, police said.

Officers responded to Artis’ Tender Loving Care, a residential treatment center for teen girls, on McGuffey Road.

Staff said that 19-year-old Miracle Wilford wanted another pork chop but when they told her she couldn’t have it because she’d already had two when another girl only had one, she got upset and “trashed the building.”

They said she started flipping tables and damaging property. Officers found a dresser and Christmas tree knocked over, along with broken light bulbs and other property damage.

Wilford was locked inside a bathroom, but police convinced her to open the door. She told them she was mad because she said the staff treats the other girl better than her. Wilford said she wanted to be left alone and didn’t want to live at the home anymore.

While they were speaking with other witnesses, officers said the smoke alarm went off and heavy smoke started coming from the bathroom.

When they got to the room, they said a shower curtain was on fire. Police put it out with a fire extinguisher.

Wilford said she set the fire with matches, according to a police report.

She was arrested and faces a felony arson charge.
