BENSON, N.C. (WNCN) — Two new images were released by police Wednesday of a missing man who jumped from car in Benson just after Thanksgiving.
Christopher Cole Thomas, 22, was traveling on Interstate 40 west to Durham with two acquaintances. The trio pulled off the interstate in Benson and were then driving through a residential area.
Thomas then suddenly stopped the vehicle near the North Elm and East Morgan street intersection, the acquaintances told police.
Thomas jumped from the car and ran around 3 a.m., the North Carolina SBI said.
The passengers searched for Thomas before contacting police on November 25.
Benson police said extensive efforts have been made to contact Thomas but there have been no confirmed sightings of him.
The SBI said Saturday that they have joined the investigation into Thomas’ disappearance.
He has not contacted his acquaintances, his employer, or his family, police said.
Thomas was living in Florida but was working in Minnesota. Officials said he was headed to North Carolina to spend Thanksgiving with a Minnesota coworker who lives in Durham.
Thomas is described as standing 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing approximately 230 pounds.
He has brown/blond hair and blue eyes.
He was last known to have been wearing a red t-shirt, black pants, and a black Carhartt jacket.
Anyone who may have seen him, or who may have information regarding his location, is encouraged to contact Chief Kenneth Edwards or Captain Greg Percy at the Benson Police Department, at 919-894-2091.
