Man put NC police K9 in choke hold during arrest, police say

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WFMY) — High Point Police say a man grabbed one of their police dogs by the neck and began choking it when they tried to serve him an arrest warrant.

Gerard Samuel Williamson faces charges of resist and delay of arrest as well as felony injury to a law enforcement animal.

Captain Ellenberger with High Point Police says officers were serving Williamson a warrant for assault charges on December 4 at his home on S. Elm Street when the incident happened.

Police say Williamson was armed with a knife when he grabbed the dog and began choking it. Police say it wasn’t long before the dog was free and officers were able to arrest Williamson.

Captain Ellenberger says the dog is okay. Williamson is in the Guilford County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
