BELHAVEN, N.C. (WNCT) – After their initial offer was rejected, supporters wanting to reopen Pungo Hospital in Belhaven increased their purchase offer.
The initial offer of $500,000 was rejected by the owners, Pantego Creek LLC, who said it wasn’t enough money. The new offer made by Pungo Medical Group for the hospital property is $665,000.
Earlier, Pantego Creek LLC said its members had voted to move forward with demolishing the building. That prompted supporters to go to court to get a temporary restraining order.
The hospital has been at the center of local and national debate.
Belhaven Mayor Adam O’Neal has walked to Washington, D.C. twice to raise awareness about the closure.
The hospital was closed by Vidant Health in July 2014.
