FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Police say a Fayetteville man was pistol-whipped, kidnapped and robbed Friday after connecting with a woman via the website Backpage.com.
The popular website Backpage.com has been known for prostitution, drugs and people wanting to connect for possible illegal activity.
The victim told police that he connected via Backpage with a woman only known as “Lola.”
They both agreed on a price and that they would meet at the Roadway Inn on Cedar Creek Road, according to a police report.
The victim said he and “Lola” sat in the hotel room, but that the pair did not have sex, police said.
The reports says that during the encounter, Lola “carried him like a baby.”
Shortly after, the report says, someone knocked on the door, “Lola” opened it and three men burst into the room.
The victim told police he was kicked, punched and hit in the head with a gun.
The report says one of the suspects also forced the victim into his car, where the suspect made him drive to a Cash Points ATM and withdraw $500.
The victim told police after leaving the ATM, one of the suspects then forced him to drive to an Exxon gas station to withdraw more money from an ATM.
Once at the Exxon, the victim told the gas station clerk to call police. The suspect then left the area.
Five people – including three teenagers — are now charged in connection with the incident.
Susan Maynor, 21, Jalen Walters, 23, and 19-year-olds Raquan Melvin, Ra’sean Robinson and Melanie Maynor.
Charges include robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree kidnapping, conspiracy and possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana.
