RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — With freezing rain bearing down on much of the state, the N.C. Department of Transportation was working Friday to prepare for the precipitation.
In parts of Wake County, crews were laying brine on the roads. The solution is designed to pre-treat roads to help keep ice from sticking, but NCDOT officials are urging drivers to take it easy on the roads tonight.
“The brining process is a big precaution thing to keep snow and ice from adhering from the roadway. It’s a big big plus for us,” said Steve Abbott, NCDOT spokesman. “It’s only effective until it only gets in the upper teens and then it loses its effectiveness. It’s one of our biggest weapons to help prevent bad things on the road.”
