RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Darius Hodge had 17 tackles to lead a dominant defensive effort that helped Wake Forest beat Greensboro Page 29-0 in Saturday’s Class 4-AA North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship game.
Hodge was named the game’s most valuable player for the Cougars (16-0), who held Page to 142 total yards. It was the first state title for a Wake County school since 1987.
Hodge blocked a punt that was returned for the game’s first score. Devon Lawrence ran for two touchdowns and also threw for a score to lead the offense in the program’s fourth finals trip since 2010. Wake Forest avenged a playoff loss to the Pirates in last year’s second round.
Page (14-2) was making its eighth finals trip and second in a row, but the Pirates threw four interceptions.
