Springs High School senior drowned Monday evening in Jordan Lake off Poole Road East.
Officials say someone called emergency dispatch around 6:50 p.m. reporting their friend went under water and the teen was not seen resurfacing.
As of 8 p.m., a search was underway for the man officials have identified as David Agamloh, 18, of Holly Springs.
Officials said that the teen’s body was found around 9 p.m.
Agamloh was apparently swimming while wearing jeans and became tired, and didn’t make it back to shore, officials said.
A medical examiner arrived on scene just after 10 p.m.
Agamloh was a senior at Holly Springs High School.
Chatham County crews were conducting the efforts Monday night while Wake County and Apex officials assisted in the recovery.
Authorities are treating his death as an accidental drowning.
Holly Springs High School Principal Brian Pittman released a statement following Agamloh’s death that read in part:
We are saddened to announce that one of our students died unexpectedly last night. David Agamloh was a senior at Holly Springs High and he tragically drowned last night. David will be greatly missed by his peers and the staff here at Holly Springs High School.
