No one found in car during Edgecombe County water rescue

SHARPSBURG, N.C. (WNCN) — Authorities in Edgecombe County said no one was found in a car during water rescue near Rocky Mount on Wednesday night.

The attempted rescue, which was also reported by Sharpsburg Police, took place after 6 p.m. at 4484 Old Wilson Road in Rocky Mount, officials said.

Authorities said that a car was in the water and was completely submerged.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the wreck was caused by rain. Troopers said the driver went around a curve, ran off the road and hit a fence before landing in the creek.

By 9:30 p.m., crews removed the car from the water, but did not find the driver.

A neighbor told CBS North Carolina that officials said the driver was found later at her Rocky Mount home.

No bodies were found in the surrounding water.
