OXFORD, N.C. (WNCN/AP) — Four people died in a house fire in a Granville County home early Sunday, officials said.
The fire was reported around 3 a.m. at a house at New College Street and Rectory Street in Oxford, according to officials with the Oxford Fire Department.
Authorities did not provide any more information about the fire or the victims. Images from the scene showed a wood-frame single story home that was gutted by the blaze.
Neighbors told CBS North Carolina that the family who lived in the home were good people. Oxford fire and police officials say they won’t know the cause of the fire for days.
Bodies found in the home have been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsies. More than 12 hours later, Oxford fire crews were still at the home, clearing the scene.
Fire officials say they are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
