SANFORD, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was shot and killed as he tried to break into a Sanford woman’s home Thursday morning, Lee County Sheriff Tracy Carter confirmed.
The woman heard the man’s attempts to get inside her home in the 300 block of South Plank Road. The woman retrieved her handgun and opened the door.
The two got into a scuffle that ended with the woman shooting the intruder, the sheriff said.
The man, identified as Bryant Latrelle Martin, 29, stumbled off her porch and died, Carter said. He had been shot in the chest.
Martin lived on South Plank Road and knew the woman who shot him, the sheriff’s office said.
The woman was interviewed and released, the sheriff said. But the district attorney is being consulted about the case.
The case is still being investigated as a homicide at this time.
