DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Authorities in Durham County responded Monday afternoon to a report of explosives found behind a home in northern Durham.

The incident was reported around 2:20 p.m. at a home on Springhouse Place, officials said.

When the Durham Hazardous Device Unit arrived, they determined the “device” was merely a wire protruding from a rock, police said.

Officials said it could be the remains of an old lamp.
